Five Things You May Have Missed in the Premier League This Weekend

Matchweek four of the Premier League season, which came following the first international break, has concluded.

There were 19 goals - averaging just 0.95 per match - but we still saw late drama in multiple matches and three derbies all take place.

Here's the best five things you may have missed from the Premier League this weekend.

More VAR Controversy

Following on from the last gameweek, in which Joshua King had a goal ruled out in highly contentious fashion, there were two decisions on Saturday that had fans furious.

Tottenham thought they had opened the scoring against West Ham United from a corner, however VAR chalked off the goal as they ruled Micky Van de Ven had been instructing the goalkeeper and knocked over Kyle Walker Peters, meaning he could not challenge Cristian Romero in the air.

Brentford's last-gasp equaliser was not met with any questions or doubts regarding its legitimacy from media pundits, however it did cause a stir online from supporters.

From a long throw-in, Kristoffer Ajer's flick on means Dango Ouattara is in an offside position but still tries to play the ball, which could have impacted Reece James' ability to clear it from danger, before Fabio Carvalho scores at the back post.

Derby Galore

There were three derbies this weekend, two of which were from London.

Tottenham's visit to the London Stadium proved to be fruitful, as they got on track after a recent loss to Bournemouth by hammering the Hammers 3-0.

Tomas Soucek was shown a red in that one as Pape Matar Sarr, Lucas Bergvall and Van de Ven all scored second half goals.

Chelsea looked to have turned the game around after Kevin Schade's opener, until Carvalho's goal in the 90+3rd minute wrestled back a point for The Bees.

In the Manchester Derby, which was taking place just hours after the death of boxing legend and Citizens fan Ricky Hatton, it was the Sky Blues that tore the Red Devils apart, winning 3-0.

Phil Foden got his first league goal since 25 January to set the hosts on their way, before Erling Haaland's brace compounded Ruben Amorim's misery.

Two teams on the South Coast, Bournemouth and Brighton, also met as the Cherries won 2-1, but calling it a South Coast derby may be a bit of a stretch.

Liverpool Steal It Late

Liverpool's trip to Turf Moor looked to have been less than ideal for the side who led coming into the weekend.

With Lesley Ugochukwu sent off for two yellow cards for Burnley and at 0-0 with the clock at 90, Liverpool were set to be held for a goalless draw and be only a point above Arsenal.

That was until the Reds were awarded a penalty deep into added time, allowing for Mo Salah to step up from the spot.

The Egyptian, as he so usually does when he is needed most, delivered to make it four late wins out of four.

Caicedo Screamer

With Brentford and Chelsea level heading into the last six minutes of normal time, the Blues needed a hero if they were to head to the top of the table - at least on a temporary basis until Liverpool's match on Sunday.

Up stepped Moises Caicedo from midfield, with a fine volley.

If the Blues held on, it would have been a goal worthy of winning any match.

Woltemade Winner On Debut

A lot of weight was on Nick Woltemade's shoulders, following his acquisition to replace the goals of Alexander Isak.

The Euro Under-21 runner-up certainly wasted no time in proving he is up to the task, towering over his marker to head home what turned out to be the winner on debut.

The Toon Army will hope that the striker, who had been courted by Bayern Munich earlier in the summer, can fire them into the Champions League knockouts and be well worth half the price they sold the previous striker for.
